Abstract

In this paper we present the three visualizations which comprise the VAST examination scheduling system. These graphical interfaces are designed to promote humanization of the scheduling process by supporting human interaction via direct manipulation of the visualizations. The interactive scheduling process is facilitated by visualizations of the unscheduled data, in the Instance view, and the scheduled data, in the Solution view. The third visualization, the Complexity Graph, is used to analyze the relative complexity of examination scheduling problems. A prototype for the visualization of the heuristic processes employed in solving examination scheduling problems is also examined.
