Paper

Abstract

The automotive industry has employed mixed-model assembly lines to obtain efficient production flows despite working to a very diverse portfolio of products. In this context, the sequence in which products appear on the line is of utmost importance. Although the sequence is contemplated at the beginning of the production process, perturbations in production frequently occur in the sequence throughout the process. A situation may also arise in which a sequence required by a process differs from that required by a former process. Hence, resequencing is necessary and can be carried out by using buffers. This work addresses the resequencing version of car sequencing (CRSP) with selectivity banks. Buffer input and output algorithms are proposed, which are verified by the simulation models implemented in SIMIO. A sensitivity analysis is also done for the different operational factors.
